THEMES
More and better quality information about water systems, improved forecasting systems, support for decision-makers and modular ICT systems that link those components: these are the four cornerstones of Flood Control 2015. We take into account the dike, the decision-makers and the forces to which both are exposed. We integrate all the knowledge in smart, practical systems.
At present, flood protection is extremely fragmented. Weather forecasts, dike strengths, water levels: they are all assessed separately. The result is that uncertainties are added in a cumulative way. However, the reliability of forecasts can be increased significantly by first collecting sufficient information about these uncertainties, before integrating and modelling them. This enables risks to be estimated far more accurately, so that faster and better decisions can be taken.
