The country has a large number of specialists available in every conceivable area: from the design and construction of dikes, forecasting systems, and decision-supporting systems, through to crisis management, measurement systems and evacuation.

Flood Control 2015 en IJkdijk op TV in "Nederland van boven" (Dutch)

"Als iets de Nederlander heeft gevormd, dan is het wel de strijd tegen het water. Hoe veilig zijn we eigenlijk achter onze stoere dijken? Wat doen we eraan om ze goed te houden en wat kan er gebeuren als een zeedijk onverhoopt tóch doorbreekt?" Zo luidt de inleiding van de aflevering over water van het televisieprogramma "Nederland van boven". Piet Dircke, bestuursvoorzitter van Flood Control 2015, en Nico Pals, directielid van IJkdijk, werkten mee aan deze aflevering waarin in 30 minuten een prachtig beeld van onze hoogwaterbescherming wordt geschetst.  Read more...

Netherlands prepares for storm surge - online Dashboard demo (Updated)

A storm surge, caused by high Northwestern winds, has caused a dangerous situation in the north of the Netherlands. One of the flood defences there is attacked and might not withstand the high water levels. Mandatory evacuations have been issued to clear a small polder.  Read more...

Start of international community on Smart Flood Control

A succesful discussion session at the Amsterdam International Water Week marks the start of an international community on Smart Flood Control. Over 20 water professionals from over 10 nations discussed the resemblances and differences between different deltas across the globe. Flood Control 2015 and Silicon Valley team up

The Netherlands Consulate in San Francisco, in conjunction with Joint Venture Silicon Valley, brought together a group of 30 experts from a variety of fields from the Netherlands and the Bay Area to discuss opportunities for collaboration between the public and private sectors in mitigating the challenges and risks associated with sea level rise.   Read more...

Students become human sensors to examine the hazards of rip currents

Rip currents are dangerous currents in the surf zone that pull swimmers offshore into deeper water. This problem is well known to the lifeguards in the U.K., U.S., Australia and in Egmond aan Zee in the Netherlands. However, beachgoers are seldom aware of this hazard. In a joint project of TU Delft, Deltares and Shore Monitoring and co-funded by Flood Control 2015 and Building with Nature, the rip currents at Egmond aan Zee are studied in more detail.  Read more...

Grant of 3 Million Euros for development of Dike Data Service Center

Strong and smart dikes is our motto for the future. Monitoring technologies, applied in dikes, can help water managers get a better idea of the condition of the dike. The IJkdijk foundation, one of the partners in Flood Control 2015, is a co-operation between research institutes, government and businesses to develop and validate new inspection and monitoring technologies for flood defences.   Read more...

(Dutch only) Workshop Crisiscommunicatie met Berichtenbank en Berichtengame

In de afgelopen tijd is er binnen Flood Control 2015 door adviesbureau HKV gewerkt aan een Berichtenbank en nu een bijbehorende Berichtengame. Met deze game kunnen overheden berichten versturen (via verschillende gesimuleerde media die ieder eisen stellen aan de vorm van het bericht). Ontvangers van deze berichten kunnen direct feedback geven op deze berichten en kunnen vragen beantwoorden over informatiezoekgedrag.   Read more...

The water sector urgently needs a new earnings model

The Netherlands has an undisputed reputation for 'water expertise'. Even so, it has difficulty cashing in on that image, claims ir. Piet Dircke. The Flood Control chairman argued for the development of a new earnings model, with the Netherlands as the dazzling showcase for the large-scale application of the latest delta technologies. Watersector heeft dringend nieuw verdienmodel nodig (Dutch)

De reputatie van Nederland als waterland is onomstreden. Toch lukt het maar moeizaam om dat imago om te zetten in klinkende munt, stelt ir. Piet Dircke. De bestuursvoorzitter van stichting Flood Control pleit vandaag in Het Financieele Dagblad voor de ontwikkeling van een nieuw verdienmodel, met Nederland als fonkelende etalage waarin de nieuwste deltatechnologieën grootschalig worden toegepast.
