GRANT OF 3 MILLION EUROS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF DIKE DATA SERVICE CENTER
NEWS
Strong and smart dikes is our motto for the future. Monitoring technologies, applied in dikes, can help water managers get a better idea of the condition of the dike. The IJkdijk foundation, one of the partners in Flood Control 2015, is a co-operation between research institutes, government and businesses to develop and validate new inspection and monitoring technologies for flood defences.

On 4 October 2011, at a national innovation event in Rotterdam, the Dutch Secretary of State for Infrastructure and the Environment announced further support for the Stichting IJkdijk with a 3 million Euro grant. The grant will be used towards the next phase in the development of a Dike Data Service Centre (DDSC). This DDSC will help to standardize dike sensor data and its distribution. Realization of the DDSC will help water managers to gain more information about the behaviour of the dikes, in order to get a better notion of flood risks. Furthermore, construction and management of the levee can be facilitated.
